Carlingford Suburb History

Originally named Mobbs Hill, the suburb was renamed Carlingford in 1886 after a residents vote. In the 1880s the area was predominantly agricultural was the location where the city’s oranges were grown. It was also a major transportation route connecting Parramatta with the northern suburbs. Carlingford played host to several homes for children from the 20s until the 70s which led to a developed school system.

In the 1960s Carlingford underwent rapid urbanization. The suburb is dominated with 60s and 70s style freestanding homes. In the 90s higher density units, apartments and townhouses began to appear with the introduction of units and apartment blocks around the town centre. Carlingford is located 22 kilometres north west of Sydney’s CBD. Transport options include a railway with limited services and buses running to Epping and Parramatta. The M2 Hills Motorway connects car and trucks to North Sydney and the city.
